Know your duties

Everyone has a duty to reduce risk to human health and the environment from pollution and waste.

You must report a pollution incident that causes or threatens to cause material harm to human health or the environment.

When you cause pollution, you must restore the area back to how it was, as far as reasonably practicable.

Risks of harm from contaminated land and groundwater must be minimised.

You must notify us of specific types of contamination on your land, including groundwater.

Industrial waste must be taken to a place authorised to receive it.

You must be authorised to receive industrial waste.

Before you allow industrial waste to be transported, you must make sure it will be taken to a place authorised to receive it.

You have a duty to classify, contain and isolate priority waste and to pass on information about it.

You must identify and assess alternatives to waste disposal for priority waste.

You must notify us so that we can track the movement of waste classified as reportable priority waste (transactions).

You must have a permission to transport waste classified as reportable priority waste (transport).

You must not emit unreasonable noise.
